Jagath Kiladi

A master conman can achieve whatever he sets out to because of his lure for money and shrewd nature. What happens when he realizes it is people and not money that can give him the anchor in life?

This is the official remake of the Tamil film Sathuranga Vettai, which was a surprise winner at the box office. The Tamil original won much critical acclaim for its taut writing and apt casting. This set the premise for it being an apt choice for a remake. The Kannada remake shows earnestness, but it also lacks the zing that makes it stand out. Jagath Kiladi is earnest in its making and faithful to the original, but seems a tad too laborious a watch and could have cut down on a few minutes to add that edginess.

The film is about an astute con artist who manages to get whatever he wants. He has no consideration for human emotions. He would rather live in his utopia that is built with notes. But what happens when he realizes that the foundation for this utopia is flimsy forms the crux of the story.

The film has been made carefully. But, the casting seems to be the letdown in upping the watchable quotient. While Niranjanakumar Shetty has given his best to portray a well-etched character, his female lead doesn't match up and fails to evoke the empathy that her character needs to in the film. The ensemble cast has some good pillars, especially in Jaijagadish, Suchendra Prasad and Kaddi Vishwa.

Jagath Kiladi may interest you if you haven't watched the original as it does have an interesting plot with some good twists.
