India Vs England

Kanishka is a vlogger, who is lives in England. He heads to India to explore the land that he hails from, where he finds a guide and lover in Medini. Meanwhile, there’s a blue diamond that’s being smuggled to India too. What happens when the two storylines merge?

Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar is known for making films that appeal to the global Kannadiga. He chooses England as his canvas in his latest outing. The film mixes a bit of the contemporary with patriotism, trying to appeal to the senses of both the older generation and the millennials.

The intent of juxtaposing a British Kannadiga and a native Kannadiga with the story of the British invasion is interesting. The film begins with the introduction of both the protagonists and their respective lives and families. The love story that follows between them is cutesy too.

But the mixing of the smuggling of the diamond with the love story seems a little rough, and there could have been a little more care taken in the screenplay. While there are vintage Nagathihalli touches in some of the scenes, there are others that seem unnecessary. For instance, there’s a scene outside Vidurashwatha that has jingoism as patriotism, when it could have been told through visuals sans dialogues instead.

The cast delivers. From the veterans Anant Nag, Sumalatha Ambareesh and Prakash Belawadi to the leads Vasishta N Simha and Manvitha Kamath, they seem to rightly fit their roles. One only wishes the story had the zing and zeal that its plot promised on paper, on the screen too.
