Akash, a software professional who comes from a broken home, is a cynical younger who does not really believe in the idea of love. But when he learns about his father's past and encounters love in close proximity in his life, does he find a happy ending?


Geetha has released with a lot of expectations and publicity. The promotional material showed that the story also included a flashback portion that was set during the peak of the Gokak Agitation. Does this fit into the story? It does. The film shows the love and respect for the protagonist's mother tongue Kannada on one side through the protests in the flashback sequences. On the other hand, one gets to see this respect for Kannada in distant Kolkata, as it plays catalyst for love in many ways.


The film has two sets of leading ladies in both the portions of the film. Friendship, sacrifice and unrequited love form the themes in both of them. There is a difference in the way these equations play out today, as opposed to the 80s. The emotions, though, remain undiluted right through.


Geetha is a good looking film. The visuals by Shreesha Kuduvalli are stunning. Anup Rubens has got the mood of the film right with his score. The performances take the cake and the cherry on top. The casting is perfect. Ganesh and all the three women, Shanvi Srivastava, Prayaga Martin and Parvathy Arun, impress. The rest of the ensemble cast, too, give no room for complaint. An added bonus is that Mysuru gives just the right nostalgia factor for the 80s sequences.


With this film, Vijaynaagendra emerges as a promising name, as he has given a heartfelt narrative that strikes the right chords. The length could have been trimmed here and there, but those are minor elements to pick. This is a noteworthy feel-good movie for Kannada audiences after a while and makes for a good outing to the cinema halls.
