Dinga

Dinga has been in the news for some unique reasons. This is apparently one of the first Kannada films to be shot entirely on a smartphone. The team has tried to keep the visuals aesthetically pleasing, given the limitations this gives them. To add to it, there's an emotional tale of Bunty and his pet do, Dinga.

Dinga is a commendable effort and it does show that the medium has far evolved from the celluloid days to now be entirely shot on a smartphone. There are some sweet moments too, which involve Dinga and Bunty. One is left wondering, though, if this film has too many unnecessary elements, like the songs and romantic track, which dilutes the basic storyline.

Whether Dinga would have been an effective one-hour long short that focused on the bond between a dying owner and his pet is debatable. The idea of shooting entirely on a smartphone is novel, it shows that films can be made like this on a rainy day. But one is also left wondering whether the team could have used other cameras for scenes that require that, instead of chasing this tag of being one of the first to shoot entirely on a smartphone.

The acting ranges from being tolerable to absurd. It could have been better cast, one wonders. The film has its share of unpalatable and absurd humour too. If you are curious to check out the novel effort, then maybe Dinga is worth a watch.
