Dear Sathya

Plot: Food delivery executive Sathya is in jail and is on a mission to get revenge. What happened in his life that led him to be in jail?

Review: Nowadays, the thing that makes or breaks a film is the screenplay. There have been umpteen experiments in storytelling by filmmakers, with different and unique screenplays. One such is the reverse screenplay, which is what one gets to witness in Dear Sathya. This makes the film quite novel. The thing with this style of screenplay is that it needs to be dealt with carefully, as the story can become predictable, and this is where Shivaganesh stumbles right from the beginning.

The film opens with the audience getting to know Sathya, a food delivery executive. From his love for his mother, to his love story, friendships and passion to outdo opponents, Sathya's character has it all. Sathya's past life is revealed while he is also on the hunt to kill the people who have wronged him. What is the reason for this quest of his? Does he manage to kill them all? What is the double climax that one sees in this film? This forms the latter half of the story.

While the filmmaker has tried to create a unique story, there are some questions that remain unanswered even at the end of the film. This is where the film lags a little. Aryann Santosh has put in his best effort and performed well in a film that gives him enough scope to showcase his talent. Archana Kottige has also made best use of the opportunity given to her. Ashwin Rao Pallakki has done a fine job as Sathya's friend, while Aravind Rau has delivered as expected from him. Also commendable is Aruna Balaraj's endearing performance.

The song sung by Upendra lingers on, while the cinematography is worth mentioning. Dear Sathya showed a lot of promise with its story, but it could have been much better if it did not fall prey to the usual commercial elements that have diluted the effort.
