Dasharatha

Dasharatha Prasad is a righteous lawyer, who lives with his wife, daughter and son. When his daughter gets placed in a company straight out of college, she finds love in her boss. But this relationship opens up a can of worms that brings out an uneasy episode from Dasharatha's past. Will there be a happy ending?

This film, in many ways, seems an extension of V Ravichandran's family man act in Drishya. It has a happy family and a grown-up daughter who falls prey to evil eyes. Only, this time around, Ravichandran is a lawyer who knows his ways and is powerful enough to beat multiple baddies. The film's story is jaded and seems at least two decades too late.

While the fact that the protagonist's idea of finding instant karma for any wrongdoing is a nice thought, the story and execution are archaic. The film has a dose of morality that is quite heady. There are episodes in the film that reminds one of the Rajinikanth, Soundarya and Ramya Krishnan triangle in Padaiyappa. The larger premise seems to be modified around it.

Ravichandran gives his best and stands out, but one might think the makers could have tried to do something extra to showcase his younger avatar. He looks the same throughout the screen time in flashback and present. Abirami and Sonia Agarwal impress in their comeback to Sandalwood. Megha Sri has a strong role that borders on being overdramatic.

Dasharatha could have been a far more engaging story. If you like old school stories with laboured narratives and that extra comedy track, it might interest you.
