Chatrapathi

Though the movie falls in the genre of family drama with the hero Shivaji aka Shivu (Siddhanth) going in search of his step-mother in a refugee camp in Mangalore, director Dinesh Gandhi seems to have shown more interest in introducing too many action sequences by Thriller Manju; this happens to be Manju’s 400th movie. The violent sequences overshadow the emotional scenes.

The epicentre of all the action is a refugee camp which is ruled by rowdies misusing children for their benefit. Shivaji takes on the mafia and kills rowdies Kantharaju and Bajirama. But he has a task to accomplish. To trace his step-mother (Bhanumathi) who goes missing after they leave Sri Lanka and come to India. Siddhanth has a long way to go to prove his mettle as an actor. Priyadarshini is not used well. While Bhanumathi has done a good job, Mitra’s comic avatar is a disaster. The less said the better about the rest.
