Bicycle Boys

A set of young village kids lead a carefree life. They seem to have all that they want to lead their lives without any worries, until one day they spot a bunch of kids from their village with cycles. They realise that they don't have any money to buy those expensive cycles. But the kids come up with a plan to get their bicycle. Will they be successful in getting what they desire so much?

There aren't too many films for children in Kannada. This film has the rural flavour that many of the new films in Sandalwood have seen lately post Thithi. The film is simple in its narrative and follows a pattern that is partly akin to some of the memorable world cinema from nations like Iran, filled with a lot of earnestness and innocence. What plays hindrance to a little extent, though, is the length of the film, which is quite long and could have been cut a tad shorter.

When a bunch of children who believe that they are the emperors of their village are suddenly made to feel low, they take it upon themselves to prove that they are second to none. The case in this film is the fact that these children want to have a cycle and they are suddenly made to realise that their families cannot afford it. But the children have their wit and ambitions in place and their street-smart nature sets them off on a new mission — to assemble a cycle themselves. Can they realise this dream?

The six children playing the leads are adorable and have done a good job. The film has its share of fun gags. What plays truant is the pace. The film could have been edited a lot crisper to keep the audience's mind from straying at times. But, that said, the story of innocent minds wanting to prove something on a David-versus-Goliath style is definitely worth rooting for. If you want to take your children to watch a film that chases innocent dreams and show them something different from the run of the mill stuff, then this is a good choice.
