Bachelor Party

Plot: Santosh (Diganth Manchale) reunites with his old friend Maddy (Yogi) and PT Sir (Achyut Kumar) at a Bachelor Party. The trio then embark on an adventure filled with crazy encounters in Bangkok.

Review: Santosh (Diganth Manchale) is devoid of santosha (happiness) in his life because of his nagging wife Sandhya (Siri Ravikumar), who expects him to come home straight after work. She is a ‘caricaturish’ wife who doesn’t allow him to party. His female colleague at work hampers his promotion. However, his monotonous life gets a colourful twist when he gets invited to his friend Ashok’s (Shine Shetty) Bachelor Party. There, he meets his old friend Maddy (Yogi) and PT Sir (Achyut Kumar) and in a drunken state, they all fly to Bangkok. Santosh is in for a surprise after he finds out that his wife is cheating on him and the trio then embark on a journey to ‘expose’ his wife. The journey is filled with crazy encounters, adventure and a tad bit of fun.

The movie takes off after a tedious half hour. The first half takes the movie chaotically towards the intermission, post which we are introduced to more characters who aid the trio in their journey. The core premise itself makes the viewer question the logic. The second half successfully takes the rocking party boat to the shore, albeit being a bit shaky and tedious. The ‘comedy’ has its share of jokes, but most of the jokes don’t land well with some of them being too outdated. The makers seem to have written this movie to cater specifically to men, and that works to some extent.

Diganth and Yogi are at their casual best and have delivered what is expected of them. Yogi’s comic timing sure adds flavour to the party. Achyut Kumar, Balaji Manohar, Prakash Tumminadu do bring entertainment to the table, but average jokes play the party pooper. Director Pawan Kumar and Guru Prasad are seen in a special role. For a film industry that extracted powerful performances from women last year, the first big release of this year seems like it's taken two steps backwards, thanks to cliched female characters. Director Abhijith Mahesh’s debut direction is bogged down by lack of freshness.

The trailer and the premise drew comparisons with the Hollywood film, The Hangover. However, this party is not that fun. Bachelor Party traverses between being peppy and lackadaisical, thus leaving the audience with a mixed feeling.
