Ammana Mane

Rajeeva, a school teacher who has overcome physical ailments to lead a normal life, dotes on his mother. His mother has been the force guiding him all his life. When life puts him in a spot, where he has to take care of his mother as a child, there seem hurdles aplenty for Rajeeva.

Nikhilmanjoo Lingegowda is associated with films that usually get a lot of critical acclaim. With this film, he managed to convince Raghavendra Rajkumar to make a comeback to films. Raghavendra's strong bond with his mother, Parvathamma Rajkumar, is well known by Kannada film audiences, and this film tries to replicate a similar sentiment on screen. The fact that someone dealt with a subject like this, where one's relationship with the mother shifts from being the nurtured to the nurturer, needs to be appreciated. But the treatment is rather melodramatic. Even the narrative could have been more fast paced.

Rajeeva is born to a lower middle-class family and his mother Janaki loves him dearly. Rajeeva, who is not completely physically fit, is abandoned by his father and he grows up being the darling son of his mother. Rajeeva, now a teacher in a school, aims to be an ideal citizen. Life ends up being an uphill task when he has to deal with problems with his daughter and wife on one side and take care of his ailing mother on the other.

When it comes to performances, Raghavendra Rajkumar's given an endearing performance. Suchendra Prasad is a hoot, as always. Nikhilmanjoo, as the tough nut cop, is good. The women in the film seem to have been given overly sentimental characters.

Ammana Mane touches upon some relevant issues and there is some occasional poignancy in the narrative, but the film ends up being jarring with regards to showcasing sentiments, and the pace doesn't help that either.
