Adhyaksha In America

Ullas is a scamster living in a small town, who’d do anything for good money. A confusion leads him to get married to a rich NRI girl, who has an alcohol problem. What will become of this marriage?

Adhyaksha in America is a script that is tailor-made for Sharan fans. This remake of the Malayalam film Two Countries sticks to the original narrative, while it also has the elements that a Kannada comedy lover would want. The film has more than its share of laughs, and it is picturised well with a good cast too. Is it a tad too long? Maybe, but the outing does promise a lot of fun.

Confusion and hidden identities always make good premises for comedies. The bonus is that the ensemble cast has many comic champions, and each of them has their share of witticisms that click with the audience. While the laughter is present, sometimes one does wonder if the comedy is taken for granted and the jokes on sexuality, body shaming, archaic gender roles and adultery seem a little outdated for this age of mindfulness.

Sharan gets to dance and entertain, and he does not disappoint with that. Ragini Dwivedi has a plum role for her 25th big screen outing and she stands up to it, excelling especially in the emotional scenes. The entire set of comedians play their part too. If one does not really seek political correctness and wants the good old style of comedy, then it can live up to their expectations.
