Rapper Ksmartboi’s past marijuana conviction resurfaces, court details reveal 8-month jail sentence and probation

Korean rapper Rapper ksmartboi has been on the rise in the indie music scene; however, a recent report has unveiled the star's previous run-in with the law. He had been serving a jail sentence last year for marijuana usage, as per recent reports. Read more to find out about the case.

Rapper Ksmartboi was previously sentenced to jail

As per News Daily reports shared on October 29, rapper Ksmartboi, who has been working under fellow rapper Swing's company, was sentenced to jail last year. The star was, as per the reports shared, caught smoking and using the illegal substance along with a friend who has been named as Ji. The incident occurred in May, in Seoul, where they were caught by officials in a parking lot.

Laws in South Korea regarding drug usage are extremely strict, and the duo was charged under the Narcotics Control Act. The rapper was indicted in September 2024, and the official sentence was served in December last year. The Seoul Eastern District Court's Criminal Division 3, which was headed by Judge Lee Ho Dong, sentenced the rapper to at least 8 months in jail over the presiding charges at the time. His acquaintance, Ji, was also charged with the same sentence by the same judge.

A statement from the judge read, "Despite having a prior record of receiving a suspended indictment for similar offenses, the defendants committed the crime again. Committing the act in a public place reflects on their poor character."

The rapper then timely filed for an appeal, which was later heard in April this year. The initial sentence for both the rapper and his friend was overturned by the Seoul High Court's 1-1 Criminal Division, led by Chief Judge Maeng Hyun Moo. They were sentenced to an eight-month prison sentence with a two-year probation line as well. It was shared in the court hearing that their age, as well as the fact that both of them showed signs of extreme remorse, made them subject to a second chance at rehabilitation.
