BLACKPINK and Murakami's limited-edition collection takes the stage
BLACKPINK has teamed up with renowned graphic designer Takashi Murakami to drop an exclusive capsule collection. The collaboration, set to launch on December 8, promises a fusion of K-pop music and contemporary art, bringing fans a one-of-a-kind limited-edition series.
YG Plus, the entertainment powerhouse behind BLACKPINK, made the announcement about the special collaboration capsule collection. The news comes hot on the heels of the confirmation on December 6 that all four members of BLACKPINK have renewed their exclusive contracts with YG Entertainment.
The star-studded capsule collection introduces a brand-new character called Pandakashi, crafted by Murakami and inspired by BLACKPINK's unique musical style. Pandakashi embodies the convergence of art and music, symbolising unity through creative expression.
Available exclusively on NTWRK, the 19-piece collection offers a range of items priced between $15 and $300. Fans can get in on the action during weekend activations on December 9 and 10 at Alchemist Miami for Art Basel weekend, as well as at the NTWRK Los Angeles store.
BLACKPINK, a four-member South Korean girl band comprised of Jennie Kim, Lisa, Kim Jisoo, and Roseanne Park, emerged from the prominent K-pop trainee system under YG Entertainment. The name BLACKPINK, as revealed by YG Entertainment, challenges the conventional perception of the color pink, emphasising that 'Pretty isn't everything' and representing a team of not only beauty but also immense talent.
Takashi Murakami, renowned for his paintings, sculptures, and films, is celebrated for creating characters that transcend pop culture, history, and fine art. One such creation for this collaboration is Pandakashi, embodying Murakami's commitment to bringing people together through the intersection of different artistic elements.
In Murakami's own words, "We want to see the newest things. That is because we want to see the future, even if only momentarily. It is the moment in which, even if we don’t completely understand what we have glimpsed, we are nonetheless touched by it. This is what we have come to call art."
Murakami's artistic approach, as described by the Gagosian gallery, involves merging different time periods, styles, and subject matter. His work goes beyond traditional boundaries, encompassing galleries, studios, art fairs, and media. Combining fantasy, science, and history, Murakami's creations challenge the isolation of these categories, showcasing the interconnected nature of his artistic vision.
