‘Baazigar’ to ‘Don’: Top 10 Shah Rukh Khan films that are a must watch!

Shah Rukh Khan is not known as the king of romance for nothing. Even while he has charmed fans and entertained the audience for decades with his lover boy avatar, SRK is also known for his grey shade roles in films like ‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Don’ to name a few. Celebrating the actor’s contribution to cinema, here’s taking a look at Top 10 Shah Rukh Khan films that are a must watch!

Baazigar

Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of Vicky Malhotra in ‘Baazigar’ is still remembered by fans. While he romanced Shilpa Shetty and Kajol in the film, the contemporary thriller was a perfect entertainer. Directed by Abbas-Mustan, ‘Baazigar’ hit the screens in November 1993 and established SRK as a bankable star. Interestingly, ‘Baazigar’ was first offered to Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. However both the actor turned down the role and rest as they say is history!

Darr

‘Darr’ came as an extension of Shah Rukh Khan’s tryst with grey shade roles. He essayed the roles of an obsessive stalker while Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla played the leads. This was one occasion when SRK’s anti-hero portrayal earned fame. ‘Darr’ also released in 1983, soon after ‘Baazigar’.

Karan Arjun

Fans of Salman and Shah Rukh Khan will forever cherish this film as one of the biggest hits of the duo. ‘Karan Arjun’ featured the two actors as brothers and the reincarnation drama was massively popular with the audience. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Shah Rukh Khan enjoyed massive fan following as ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ released in 1995. His lover boy antics and romance with Kajol are still a huge rage. From chartbuster songs to SRK-Kajol’s light-hearted romance and the iconic train scene - ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ continues to win hearts. It is a perfect feel-good film to watch on a lazy afternoon. For more than two decades ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ was screened at a Mumbai theatre.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol collaborated for yet another memorable romantic outing in 1998. From their innocent college friendship to reuniting as lovers years later - ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ has been an all time favourite with fans. Movies buffs also get a stunning glimpse of Rani Mukerji and an extended cameo by Salman Khan. Directed by Karan Johar, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ received a massive applause when it hit the screens decades ago and continues to charm fans even now.

My Name is Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has delivered some of the biggest hits of his career with Karan Johar and 2010 release ‘My Name is Khan’ is one of their most successful collaborations. The hard hitting drama saw SRK in one of his career-best acts. He convincingly portrayed the role of a person with Asperger's syndrome and defended his surname of ‘Khan’ in the drama set against the backdrop of 9/11 terrorist attacks in US. ‘My Name is Khan’ also saw SRK reunite with his most successful onscreen leading lady – Kajol.

Devdas

Shah Rukh Khan collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2002 to deliver a captivating extension of his lover boy charm. He essayed the titular character in ‘Devdas’ which was based on the 1917 Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel by the same name. Elaborate sets, magnificent songs and two stunning leading ladies – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit. This romantic saga had all the ingredients for a hit and lived up to its expectations.

Kal Ho Naa Ho

Producer Karan Johar had described ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ as a film close to his heart. Shah Rukh Khan essayed a much loved bachelor in the film, who falls in love with Preity Zinta. However the untimely death of his character, sees a parallel romance between Saif Ali Khan and Preity. While the film was directed by Nikkhil Advani, KJo reportedly regretted not helming this venture. ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ is a heartwarming film with an unmissable performance by SRK.

Don

Shah Rukh Khan stepped into Amitabh Bachchan’s shoes, as he played the title role in yesteryear hit ‘Don’ remake. He essayed a double role in this thriller, directed by Farhan Akhtar. SRK won hearts with his act of impersonating the real Don and creeping into his drug mafia system. While ‘Don’ released in 2006, its sequel ‘Don 2’ was released in 2011. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the third part of this thriller franchise, till then re-watch and enjoy.

Dear Zindagi

Shah Rukh Khan as Dr Jehangir Khan aka ‘Jug’ in this entertaining drama was indeed a visual treat for the audience. SRK delivered a seasoned performance as he played the role of DD (dimaag ka doctor), a therapist with unconventional ways. Directed by Gauri Shinde, SRK shared the frame with Alia Bhatt in this coming of age drama which hit the screens in 2016.
