When women took centre stage in Lucknow

A play titled

Ghazab Teri Adaa

was recently staged at

Bhartendu Natya Akademi

. The play, written and directed by Prof

Waman Kendre

was inspired by the

Aristophanes

’ play Lysistrata in which women were shown opposing the war. The thought of doing this play came several times in the director’s mind in the last 32 years, but it only remained an aspiration for him. The recent global scenario of multiple wars though did not affect him directly, this insensitivity saddened him greatly.
The two-hour-long play was performed by actors of the

NSD Repertory Company

and was a complete treat for theatre lovers in the city.

The plot of the play revolved around wives and mothers of a kingdom who sent their husbands and sons for wars despite knowing the consequences. The women in the play opposed the war after observing the cons of the war. They play concluded with all the women successfully persuading the king to not send his soldiers on the battlefield and that the war should end.
