Bombay Velvet — made his debut as director of the play
Comedy Of Horrors on the first day of Tata Literature Live! at NCPA in Nariman Point, Mumbai.
The son of film and theatre actors
Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, Vivaan was to direct a play last year. He's happy this other story worked, since it's based on his favourite genre — horror.
“It has three short stories by classic horror writers Edgar Allan Poe and Ambrose Bierce, enacted by Shiv Subramaniam, Joy Fernandes, Denzil Smith and Jaimini Pathak who are theatre directors in their own right,” said Vivaan, who will next be seen in
Mastan. The play is one of the latest by the Motley theatre group, founded in 1979 by stalwarts like his dad Naseeruddin Shah, and actors Tom Alter and Benjamin Gilani. The actor is an avid fan of gothic horror stories by masters of the craft like HP Lovecraft and Poe. “Bierce is a comparatively lesser known author but equally enchanting,” he added.
