NSD to start a theatre bazaar
The concept of a ‘theatre bazaar’ is likely to be introduced in the 17th edition of the National School of Drama’s (NSD) Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
The 18-day festival that will commence on February 1, is expected to have at least 15 stalls set up on the campus during the festival, which will sell items related to theatre. “We have invited vendors, who will be selling costumes, makeup material and sound and light equipment.

We also plan to have bookstalls that will specifically sell books related to theatre and literature,” informs a school official, who wishes to remain anonymous. The director of NSD, WamanKendre, confirmed the news, stating that such an initiative has been chalked out.
The theatre bazaar, it if comes into being, will be the first-ever initiative of its kind in the history of the festival. There are also plans to create a small, permanent market for theatre props on campus. “At present, most of the costumes that are used for our drama productions come from Calcutta and we would want to create a market on campus, where all theatre troupes in Delhi can get things locally instead. Since we know all about the quality of cosmetics, we will hire only those vendors who sell standard products. This plan, however, may see the light of day next year,” the official added.
We had earlier reported that theatre groups and rock bands from DU and JNU might be seen performing at the festival for the first time this year. Though the decision is still pending, the members of NSD Students’ Union have started reaching out to budding artistes from different colleges, inviting them to perform at the fest.
