Lucknow Mahotsav to host two theatre festivals this year

auditorium – organized in association with Artistes’ Association – has also given a nod to a seven-day theatre fest to be staged at the Rajkiya Abhilekhagar from November 29 by Theatre and Film Welfare Association, Lucknow. Kaushal Raj Sharma, DM Lucknow, was quoted as saying that the plays staged in the fest will be based on social issues.
Confirming the same, Sangam Bahuguna, secretary of the Artist Association, says, “In sync with this year’s theme of social issues, theatre artists from across the country have been invited to be a part of the festival. Today, we will be inaugurating the festival marked by some cultural activities.”
He adds, “This year we awill be staging 11 plays covering a variety of genres. We have also tried to promote pass-outs of Bhartendu Natya Akademi by selecting their plays as part of the festival. The inaugural play, Gorakhdhanda, by Delhi-based Rang Mandap is being directed by ex-BNA student JP Singh. In fact, the play, My Sweet Heart which will be staged on the concluding day is directed by well known thespian Puneet Asthana, who is an alumnus of BNA. The other plays at the Rai Umanath Bali auditorium include Milind Prashn by Shyam Kumar, Maa Durga Sakali by Sunil, Watan Ke Waaste by Puneet Mittal, The Good Doctor by Subrat Rai to name a few.”
