Prithvi Theatre holds a special place in the hearts of theatre enthusiasts, and for actor Girija Oak, it’s much more than just a venue—it’s home. Reflecting on her deep connection with the iconic Mumbai space, Girija shares, “I cannot begin to describe what Prithvi Theatre means to me. It’s been a place I’ve grown up at. My journey here started with a summertime workshop when I was in school. Now, life has come full circle as my son attends the same workshops.”

Girija will be performing at the prestigious Prithvi Theatre Festival, a moment she cherishes deeply. “Performing at the festival this year is nothing short of a dream! I hope people enjoy our work as much as we love bringing it to them.”

As the festival unfolds, Girija is set to take the stage once again with Khichak tonight. “I’m doing the 6pm show,” she says, her excitement palpable. The play, a Hindi adaptation of Snapshots from an Album, was originally written by the late Shiv Subramaniam and translated by his wife, Divya Chakdare, who also directs the production.

“This play is a beautiful little photo album of sorts,” Girija explains. “It tells the story of a couple who meet in college and takes the audience through different snapshots of their lives together, right until the end.”

Sharing the stage with Dhansham Lhasa, Khichak, she feels, offers a unique challenge for the actors. “I get to play a variety of ages and explore different moods. It’s quite the actor’s dream,” Girija says. “The range of emotions and experiences in this play makes it incredibly fulfilling, and I’m really excited to bring it to the audience.”

For Girija, the stage at Prithvi isn’t just a performance space; it’s where memories are made, and stories come to life. As she steps into the spotlight once more, her passion for theatre and storytelling shines brighter than ever.
