A treat for theatre lovers in Varanasi

Three-day International

Theatre

and Film Festival, organised at Banaras Hindu University, was a treat for theatre and cinema lovers. On the opening day of the event, a play revolving around the life of Pt Madan Mohan Malviya, Mahamana, 'The Conscience Keeper', was staged. Written by Prof Manjeet Chaturvedi and directed by Sumit Srivastava, the play beautifully depicted the episodes from the life of Mahamana. His contribution in the freedom struggle and his dream of setting up of BHU were incorporated in the play.

The following day, plays 'Tanik Prem Kare' and 'Kaka Banarasi' were also staged. 'Tanik Prem Kare' directed by Swaram Upadhyaya, dwelled on the relationship between a married couple while Kaka Banarasi, directed by Ritwik Shridhar Joshi, was in the format of kissa goi , that revolved around a middle class family. 'Gandhojale' directed by Samarjeet Das was also one of the plays staged on the occasion.

The festival also showcased talent of upcoming film makers as their films were screened. Actor, Sanjay Mishra, who was the special guest on the occasion, spoke on the issue of environment after his film, 'Kadvi Hawa' was screened as part of the festival.
