Sufi
singer
Radhika Sood
Nayak has composed and sung her new
song
'
AsāN
', through which she aims to raise funds for the people affected by the
COVID-19
pandemic. The initiative is in collaboration with NGO Goonj.
AsāN is an evocative kalaam of the sixteenth century Sufi mystic Shah Hussein, which Radhika has composed and sung herself. Radhika had composed the song in 2017, when she started out on a collaboration with a young dastango Ankit Chadha for a musical narrative on Shah Hussain. However, Ankit’s untimely demise halted this journey. She later collaborated with
Kathak
dancer Sanjukta Wagh on a dance-
music
exploration of Shah Hussain’s poetry. 'AsāN' became part of that piece. Musicians Hitesh Dhutia and Vinayak Netke helped in the musical arrangement. In January this year, the music
video
for the song was shot by Alleyah Asghar. It was set for a launch on Baisakhi, but was delayed by the COVID-19 outbreak.
