On a sunny afternoon near Famous Studios in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, we spotted dance stalwarts Shiamak Davar and Mithun Chakraborty enjoying an animated chat.It was surprising to know that they had met for the first time, for, they hit it off famously. And so, it was revelry galore on the sets of “Dance India Dance”, where Shiamak had gone to make a surprise entry for judge Marzi Pestonji and of course, Mithun.
Mithun warmly addressed Shiamak as Shiamakda (short for Davar) as soon as Shiamak called him Mithunda.
This pleasant camaraderie set the mood for the shoot. Watching the contestants on stage, Shiamak broke into a jig and Mithun stood up to cheer him. He said, “I usually have words of appreciation, but today, I stand speechless.” Shiamak responded, “During college, we used to call you Pelvic Presley! You are a fabulous dancer,” and added, “I wish we had such a wonderful platform during our growing-up years. Today, it’s how passionately young dance enthusiasts want to learn that makes me create choreography that is ahead of its time yet rooted in culture.”
Mithun also said Shiamak was a global ambassador through the performing arts, as he wowed audiences with his performances in Mumbai and Bangalore at the recent Bryan Adams concerts.
