Legendary singer
Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. The funeral took place on April 13, at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. She was laid to rest with full state honours. Amidst this, a story about her grit and grace has surfaced on the internet.
When Asha Bhosle continued to sing despite heavy rain at an event
According to a Free Press Journal report, Asha gave Indian music some of its most iconic moments, but one night in Pune may be her most unforgettable. Performing at the 'Me… Asha' program on the Ramanbaug School grounds, a 75-year-old Asha Bhosle refused to stop singing even as heavy rain drenched the stage, eventually delivering 22 songs to a cheering crowd who gave her a standing ovation.
When the rain came down, Asha Bhosle stood her ground
As her show was hit with a heavy downpour mid-performance, actor Nana Patekar and the event narrator rushed to the stage to shield her with an umbrella. But Asha Bhosle had other plans. She turned to the audience and asked a simple question—would they leave, or would they stay to hear her sing?
The crowd roared back that they would stay. She then set aside the umbrella, tucked in her saree, and picked up where she left off, accompanied only by a harmonium, completely soaked, and entirely in her element.
In her own words, "I have faced many storms in life. A little rain doesn't scare me."
Asha Bhosle's performance at the event
What followed was nothing short of extraordinary. Asha Bhosle went on to perform 22 songs back to back, drenched from head to toe, without missing a beat. The audience, equally unwilling to leave, gave her a thunderous standing ovation by the end of the night.
Asha Bhosle: Beyond music
Those who know Asha Bhosle personally have always described her as warm, grounded, and deeply passionate about food and cooking. She used to enjoy everything from elaborate dishes to simple meals like dal and rice. She was known to personally cook for guests, both at her home and theirs.
For her, adapting with time has been the secret to longevity. "The microphone is like God," she had said, "and singing is my form of worship."Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
