Vipin Aneja on working with Honey Singh: Collaborating with him has been an absolute thrill
In an interesting fusion of two distinct musical worlds, singer-composer Vipin Aneja has teamed up with Yo Yo Honey Singh for an unexpected collaboration - “Never Cried (Jo Tu Aaye)”, part of Honey Singh’s latest album 51 Glorious Days. The track marks a first-of-its-kind experiment where the traditional emotion of Ghazal meets the high-energy vibe of rap.
“Collaborating with Honey Singh has been an absolute thrill”
Talking about how the collaboration came about, Vipin shares, “Collaborating with Yo Yo Honey Singh has been an absolute thrill! We first crossed paths back in 2005, but the timing didn’t quite align then. Years later, after my track ‘Jaane Tere Shehar Ka Kya Irada Hai’ went viral, Honey reached out, saying he wanted to work on a Ghazal with me.”
He adds that it was his recent OTT track “Kuch Is Paar” that reignited the connection. “After hearing that song, Honey immediately invited me to join his album 51 Glorious Days. With lyrics by Tanvir Ghazi and composition support from my friends Sarthak and Nakul, we created ‘Never Cried’ (track 39). Merging my Ghazal roots with Honey’s iconic style has been a truly unique and unforgettable experience.”
Recalling the creative process behind “Never Cried (Jo Tu Aaye)”, Vipin says, “When Honey asked me to do a Ghazal for his album, I brought in Tanvir Ghazi to write the poetry. Sarthak, Nakul, and I worked on two different melodies, and he chose the one that carried the most emotion - it’s in a minor scale, full of pathos.” He explains that once the vocals were recorded, Honey Singh took over the production, adding his distinctive soundscape.
“Honey added his signature touch and transformed it into something global and almost ethereal. When I first heard the rap blending seamlessly with the Ghazal, it completely blew my mind - the fusion was beyond anything I had imagined.”
