A source informed Mumbai Mirror that the film’s title R.D has already been registered with the AMTPP (Association of Motion Pictures & TV Programme Producers).
"Eros and Vinay share a very comfortable professional equation, after Chalo Dilli. They felt that Vinay, who is very comfortable within the comedy genre (Bheja Fry, Chalo Dilli), would be apt to play R D Burman. Interestingly, Vinay’s character is named Rahul Dev Dutta in the film," said the source.
And since it is based on the legendary music composer, all of his songs, owned by the companies Saregama and Universal Music, will be purchased for the film. The source added that Gourov Dasgupta, who worked with Eros in Chalo Dilli, will be roped in to direct the music.
With regard to the rumours about Chitrangda’s role in the film, the source told us, "Soumik wanted someone very expressive to get into Asha's shoes. He has seen Chitrangda's work and is very impressed with it."

When contacted, Soumik Sen said, “It is too early to talk about R.D, but yes I am working on it.”
Ram Mirchandani, Chief Creative Officer, Eros International, told Mumbai Mirror, "Yes, we are making a film titled R.D. As of now, we are in the nascent stages. It is a fictional film based on the life of a music composer.
The only additional thing that I can reveal at this point of time is that it will graph the ups and downs of the music composer's life, dwelling on all the trials and tribulations in his life."
Despite repeated attempts, both Chitrangda and Vinay remained unavailable for comment.
