The country is mourning the demise of celebrated musician Pankaj Udhas, who passed away today. He was admitted to the hospital since the past 10 days. While he charmed the audience with his soulful voice, in reality, Pankaj Udhas never planned to be a musician!

During an interview with Mid-day a few years back, the singer expressed that contrary to popular belief, his childhood ambition was not to pursue a career in singing but rather in medicine. He revealed that he had earnestly prepared for it but eventually found himself on the path of music, leaving his dream of becoming a doctor unfulfilled. Despite this, he maintained a strong interest in medicine and was well informed about the latest advancements in the field. He even humorously referred to himself as a "self-proclaimed 80 per cent doctor."

The maestro had also shared insights into his fascination with automobiles, revealing a lifelong passion for cars. Recalling his upbringing, he mentioned his father's cherished possession, a jeep, which he was forbidden to touch. Despite receiving a bicycle as a gift, his desire for cars persisted. He even reminisced about purchasing his first car, a Fiat 1951 model, with his earnings.

In 2006, Pankaj Udhas was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award.
