Formed in 2004, six-piece band The Other People are known to bring about an original twist in each track to surprise the live audience. The Mumbai-based band was formed when Samuel Berlie and Zahir Warden came together and brought on a couple of others they knew. “Initially, we had no money to invest in gear. All we had were a couple of acoustic guitars.

However, we began working together and practising and that’s how it all started,” reminisces Zahir.
On their aha moment: It was the first ever big opportunity that landed in their kitty when they were asked to open for American rock band Saving Abel on their India tour back in 2010. “That was when people all over started taking us a bit more seriously as a band and as musicians and we too realised that we had the potential to do something pretty big with ourselves,” says Zahir.
After that, there was no looking back as they bagged some huge shows like opening for Michael Learns To Rock on their India tour, playing at Independence Rock, and other music festivals. In their biggest moments so far, they count opening for the India tours of American hard rock band Saving Abel, DJ Edward Maya, DJ Diamond, Lacuna Coil, Jay Sean and Bedouin Soundclash.
On their brand of music: Their sound can best be classified as modern pop/soft rock. About their new album Dreamers Believers Lovers, to be released in January, Zahir says, “It’s got a couple of great ballads, a few huge anthem-like songs and a couple of great dance tracks as well! Overall it’s very melodic and has some great lyrics and something we're hoping everyone can relate to.”
On their influences: The band has a long list of influences ranging from Bon Jovi to Deep Purple to Chick Corea to newer pop acts of today. The band draws its inspiration from everything; especially from the 70s and 80s. They try to make soundtracks from these old melodies sound relative to modern times and appeal to a generation that was possibly not born at the time the music was created.
On their way forward: The band has just released their debut single, Christmas Is Here, worldwide less than a week ago. “We're now looking forward to releasing one more single Dreamers Believers Lovers sometime in January, followed by the entire album soon after. Says Zahir, “Post that, we’re looking to plan some big gigs, maybe even some very interesting tours and shows. Hopefully, The Other People will travel the world and play to sold-out arenas and stadiums one day,” says Zahir.
