Susmit’s leaving Indian Ocean

SusmitSen, the co-founder and guitarist of Indian Ocean, has decided to hand over his legacy to a younger guitarist Nikhil Rao, and move on.
Says Susmit, “After more than 27 years of playing, I feel that I am brimming with more compositions, more music – but in a grammar and style that is different from Indian Ocean.
So, I feel restricted now, as I am sure must be the case with the others as well.I strongly believe that my moving on will be beneficial for both Indian Ocean and my creative expression.” Amit Kilam, the drummer in the band, shares, “It’s a very happy change for us.
I think it’s time we break the formula because hum bhi bore ho gaye thay.” Talking about the new member of the band, he said, “Nikhil is a young and energetic guitarist. He’s just returned after completing his PHD from Singapore. We’ve been working together for the last 3-4 months and he has a fluent Indian style and brings in touches of Carnatic sound as well.”
