Singer, performer, reality TVstar and India’s mainstream Drag icon Sushant Divgikr aka Rani KoHEnur, has fond memories of late artist Ram Indranil Kamath.
The 41-year-old artist, illustrator, photographer and mythologist, was found dead in the bathtub in his flat in Matunga at around 3pm, on August 19. It is suspected to be a case of death by suicide as a note is said to have been found at the site.
According to reports, he has not blamed anyone in his suicide note.
Talking about him Sushant said, “I spoke to him a couple of days back. And he wanted to gift me a painting because he wanted to start a new series. But he wouldn’t do that until he let go of his earlier batch. He also was very enthusiastic about starting his jewellery line. When we were chatting last, he seemed happy. He actually made me send him pictures of the walls of my home, so that he could decide which painting to send me accordingly.”
Ram Indranil had sent one of his paintings earlier to him too. “In fact, mom was excited to receive the goddess painting because it was so pretty. I think it was of Shikhandi winning the Mahabharata,” he says.
The artist used to be extremely supportive Sushant says. “He has been such a pillar of support. I remember right from the time I was 17-18 till this day. He was always wishing me well and always making sure all the younger folk are taking care of ourselves.”
“He was in more ways than one, a mentor to a lot of young LGBT+ people. I still cannot believe he is no more. He was hands down one of the most talented artistes we had,” Sushant signs off.
