Now, this versatile singer is all set to capture hearts of people in Chandigarh on January 18, as part of celebrations of TOI's 175 years.This gala evening will he hosted at Leisure Valley, Sector 10, 7 pm onwards.Sukhwinder, who originally hails from Amritsar in Punjab, has travelled a long way since his professional genesis, and started his journey singing on stage at the age of 8 years. However, his genius mind soon beckoned him to travel the world, UK, US and Europe to broaden his musical horizons and acquire more global music influences.It was on his return that Sukhwinder turned into a hit Bollywood singer, won recognition with Chaiyya Chaiyya from the film Dil Se, music for which was composed by AR Rahman. And it was Rahman who roped in Sukhwinder for the song Jai Ho in the Danny Boyle directed Slumdog Millionaire, that won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category.
On screen, Sukhwinder's voice is most frequently and most suitably, used for Shah Rukh Khan's songs. Some of his hit songs on SRK include, Chaiyya Chaiyya (from film, Dil Se), Dard-e-disco (Om Shanti Om), Chak De India (Chak De! India) Haule Haule (Rab Ne Bana De Jodi), Marjaani (Billu). Of course, Sukhwinder's versatile voice has also been adapted for other superstars like Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt etc. In recent history, however, Sukhwinder's most memorable song, especially for people of this city that is home to legendary Milkha Singh, (though notwithstanding the film's tremendous national success), remains Slow Motion Angreza from the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
