SP Balasubrahmanyam is no more. The acclaimed singer had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai after testing positive for COVID-19. He had been hospitalised since the first week of August and unfortunately, the legendary singer's health deteriorated in the last 24 hours and he passed away today.
Shravan Rathod of composer duo Nadeem-Shravan fame had worked with the legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam in the romantic drama ‘Saajan’ starring Madhuri Dixit,
Sanjay Dutt and
Salman Khan.
In a chat with Bombay Times he said, “Superstar singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is no more. This news has shocked me, main sadme mein hoon aur mera mann bahut hi dukhi hain. Na jane humare film industry pe kiski nazar lagi hai.”
The composer who had the opportunity to work with the singer who was synonymous to Salman Khan’s voice says, “SP Balasubrahmanyam was a great singer and he was also equally a fabulous and down-to-earth human being. During the live recordings he would never talk much, not discuss matters, but he would always give 100 per cent result during recording sessions. This was one of his specialties.”
Shravan says that all the songs he recorded for them were hits. “Whether it is a ‘Dekha Hai Pehli Baar Saajan Ke Aankhon Mein Pyaar’ (Saajan) or ‘Tumse Milne Ki Tamanna Hai’ , (Saajan) or ‘Jiye To Jiye Kaise’ (Saajan) or ‘Sagar Se Gehra Hai Pyar Hamara’ (‘Majhdhaar’). He had sung a duet with Asha Bhosle also. All these songs are classics. They were popular even in those days and are still appreciated even now,” he says.
