Roopa Ganguly is making her playback debut in Aditi Roy’s “Abosheshey”. Composer Prabuddha Banerjee will be recording two Tagore songs — “Dure kothae dure dure” and “Aji bijono ghore” —with the actor at a South Kolkata studio today. Incidentally, the film, which has Roopa playing Ankur Khanna’s mother, also has a Latino number that will be sung by Roopa’s former partner,
Dibyendu Mukherjee. While the Tagore songs will be picturized on Roopa, the Latino number will be filmed on
Raima Sen and Ankur.
Says Prabudhha, “Roopa used to sing earlier. So, having her to sing the Tagore songs was not a gimmick. In the film, some portions of the songs are punctuated by Roopa’s dialogues. Since Roopa has a unique voice quality, getting another singer to lend her voice to the song might not seem appropriate.
With Roopa willing to sing the songs, the whole exercise became a very spontaneous effort.” Another interesting factor is the way the songs will be recorded today. “In the olden days, singers and musicians used to participate live while recording a number. We too are following the same template. While Roopa will sing, I will be playing the guitar live during the recording,” Prabuddha adds.
Meanwhile, Dibyendu has already sung the scratch for his Latino number.
So, are Dibyendu and Roopa aware that both of them are singing for the same movie? “Yes, they are, though they haven’t met during the course of the rehearsals,” Prabuddha says. So, what happens on the day of the music release? “This topic has never come up in our conversation.
Roopa has taken this assignment very seriously and is too engrossed with the rehearsals. Dibs is giving his best in some interesting vocal effects that we are experimenting on. Srijato has written both the original numbers of the film.” In all probability, “Abosheshey” might give a new flavour to the sound of music.
