Sonu Nigam: My 50th birthday party is a gift from my friends, and I am just having fun

Sonu Nigam’s 50th birthday bash saw celebrities from multiple walks of life including Bollywood, music industry, politicians and TV stars. The party went on till the wee hours.

Speaking to Bombay Times, the singer said, “I have always believed in hard work and have been blessed by those who love me. Even my 50th birthday is a gift from my friends. I just came and am having fun.”

When asked about turning 50, he said, “I feel the secret of my youth is about my riyaaz. I am always at it. Even on the free time I get, I do my riyaaz. On the way to my birthday party, my electronic tanpura was on, and I was practising. I am looking forward to life. I have been blessed to have such a beautiful life, and friends who love me. I am looking forward to every moment of life. Har pal jiyo kal ho na ho.”

Sonu is known for never mincing his words, for being a “muh-phat” and when asked about it he said, “Those days are gone. It’s all over. Ab toh dost ban gaye sab log. Mere khayal se yeh wqkt wqkt ki baat hoti hai. Insaan apne dost, dushman chunta nahi hai. There comes a time when some people feel bad about what is being said but jab log gehrai mein jhanktein hain toh malum padta hai ki intent galat nahi tha, baatein galat nahi thi, aur yeh pyaar hi karta hai.”

When asked what his son had in store for his birthday, the popular singer quipped, “What Nevan has planned for me is a surprise!”

Dressed in a black suit, Sonu was his radiant self and spoke of how he always feels blessed. “The universe has always been kind to me. Those who love me have done so much for me,” said an emotional Sonu as he talked about how his friends put up the big birthday bash in his honour.
