Two of the songs from Rupesh Paul’s Saint Dracula have made it to the list of 75 songs in contention for nominations in the Original Song category for the 85th Oscar Awards 2012. The songs, I Be Here and I Have Secrets, penned by Sherin Catherine and composed by Sreevalsan Menon, will compete alongside songs from films such as Skyfall and Life of Pi to make it to the final five, which will be announced on January 5.

“It is a great honour just to make it to the list of the songs in contention. The first song is like a church choir, while the second is based on Indian ragas with a western feel to it,” said Sreevalsan Menon.
Meanwhile, the background score of the same film by Sreevalsan has also found a place among the 104 film scores in contention for nominations in the Original Score category. “This is rare. Indian films don’t give much importance to the background score and thus it is rarely original,” said Rupesh Paul.
Sreevalsan, who was introduced by Rupesh Paul, has composed music for the latter’s Laptop and will be composing for his upcoming film, Kamasutra. He has also composed for the critically-acclaimed film, T D Dasan Std VI D.
