Som Dasgupta has scored the music for two films to promote Australian tourism.Som Dasgupta is happy going Down Under! The composer, who has shifted base to Mumbai, has just worked on two films meant for the promotion of Australian tourism. Film-maker Bill Bennett, who has made films like “Kiss or Kill”, “Tempted”, “In a Savage Land” and “The Nugget”, has directed these two movies.
Says Som, “Bill, who is known for having worked with
Eric Bana in “The Nugget” and Saffron Burrows in “Tempted”, worked on this project. He was full of praise for my music and told me that the immigration to Australia in the next six months depends on my music. This, incidentally, is my first international project and I am very happy to have been a part of it. On hindsight, I feel my decision to shift to Mumbai has been right. Mumbai is opening a lot of new doors for me.”
As for other projects, Som has already done the background score of a forthcoming Hindi release on the theme of ragging. “I have scored jingles for Unicef, Godrej Cinthol (with Hrithik Roshan in the video) and Surf Excel, among others. I also scored for a Hindustan Unilever corporate film that won an award in Goa. That apart, I scored for a documentary film for the Mizoram Government. From working with a film-maker who has directed Eric Bana to doing background score in a Hindi movie, life surely is quite interesting for me now,” Som said. Som, who is supposed to come down to Kolkata to complete the background score of the Smriti Z Iraani-starrer “Amrita”, was surprised on being told that his former Hip Pocket pals — Rishi-Samidh — have split. “I loved their “Khokababu” track,” says Som, adding, “and had messaged Samidh, congratulating him. He also responded to my message. This news is very surprising. I have been associated with them for five years and I know that they are very close pals. It’s perhaps for the betterment of their individual careers”.
