BRITTANY MURPHY, 32: Singer and actress Brittany Murphy was found by her mother after she collapsed in her bathroom on December 21, 2009. While rumours swirled about her OD-ing on drugs, it was later confirmed that the cause of death was pneumonia, with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication.

Two months later, it emerged that Brittany had been taking a range of over-the-counter and prescription medications, probably to treat a cold or respiratory infection.
RIVER PHOENIX, 23: On October 31, 1993, actor River Phoenix collapsed on the sidewalk in front of Johnny Depp's Los Angeles night club, The Viper Room, due to an overdose of heroin and cocaine. The actor began convulsing for eight minutes, while his brother Joaquin dialled 911 and his sister Rain attempted to give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The actor, however, passed away even before the paramedics reached the scene.
KURT COBAIN, 27: After multiple suicide attempts, an intervention and a detox programme, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain went missing on April 4, 1994. Three days later, his body was discovered at his Lake Washington residence. A suicide note was found that said, in part, "I haven't felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing... for too many years now." A high concentration of heroin and traces of Valium were found in his body. The coroner's report estimated Kurt to have died on April 5, 1994
TUPAC SHAKUR, 25: While en route to Club 662 (now Seven) in Las Vegas on the night of September 7, 1996, rapper Tupac Shakur and Deathrow Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight stopped at a red light. A white Cadillac pulled up to their right, the occupants rolled down one of the windows and rapidly fired 12-13 shots at Tupac. He was hit by bullets in the chest, the pelvis, right hand and thigh. Despite being resuscitated at a trauma center and surviving multiple surgeries, Tupac died on September 13 of internal bleeding.

AALIYAH, 22 : On August 25, 2001, R&B singer Aaliyah and members of her record company boarded an aeroplane in the Bahamas to travel to Florida after they completed filming the music video for Rock the Boat. All the equipment from the shoot was loaded on the plane against the advice of baggage handlers and the pilot. The aircraft exceeded the standard weight and balance tolerance, and crashed shortly after take-off, killing everyone on board.
LISA 'LEFT EYE' LOPES, 30 : Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died in a car accident in Honduras on April 25, 2002, the only fatality out of eight in the vehicle she was driving. She allegedly tried to swerve around a truck, but there was another vehicle heading towards them in the opposite direction. To avoid a head-on collision, Lisa swerved all the way off the road. The vehicle rolled several times after hitting two trees, throwing Lopes and three others out of the windows. She died from severe head injuries. The entire incident was recorded on video by another passenger in the car.
