In the last few months a lot of
singers
have been connecting directly with their fans, performing for fans online, come up with their own music labels, online channels, and have found a way of publishing their own music independently.
Singer
Shaan, however, did not wait for the lockdown to do so, and began this process over two years ago. He believes that every singer craves freedom to showcase their
creativity
, so publishing their own music is the best way to accomplish that.
‘The singer is the last cog in the wheel when it comes to a song’“It is very interesting that singers have come up with their own music labels. As singers we are always at the beck and call of
music companies
, the music directors and the producers. The singer is the last cog in the wheel when it comes to a song. When a song is created the lyrics are first, then the composition and then of course the music, the production, the situation and then finally it is about kisko gawaye? Accha chalo isko gawate hain. So, it is interesting that you can now create your own music,” he shares.
‘Apna ek music label, publishing house bana lo, wahan koi aapko rokega, tokega nahin’Shaan feels passionately about this and reiterates that singers are also musicians and are creative people.
Shaan reiterates that singers are also musicians who are creative people. “So, when we have a song in our minds and kuch alag humein karna hai, toh woh kaise karein? Toh yahi ek upay hai, ki apna hi ek music label ho, apna ek music publishing house bana lo, wahan koi aapko rokega nahin, tokega nahin. You can do whatever you want, the way you want it. That is the freedom every singer craves for after a while,” he adds.
‘Singers get everything ready-made, so the creativity and contribution are limited’“We are always at the end of the line. We get everything ready-made, and we just have to sing and present it in front of people. So, your creativity and contribution are limited to just as a singer. But as a creative person, you might want to explore your voice more, your music better,” he says, adding, “I started my own label because I wanted to explore myself as a composer. Through this, I have released over a dozen songs already. My new song ‘China’ is a Bengali one.”
