For the musical duo Salim and Sulaiman Merchant, visiting Rajasthan, especially Udaipur, is more like coming home thanks to the warm hospitality they receive from their newly-found friend erstwhile royal Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar. So, while they were recently in Udaipur for a private concert at Zenana Mahal of City Palace, the duo not only took out time to explore the city, but also played cricket with ex-Ranji Trophy players at the Wonder Cricket Academy.
Salim told us, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar is the president of Udaipur District Cricket Association.
So, since we were in Udaipur, he wanted us to unwind a little before our gig. He organized this cricket match at the stadium between us and former Ranji Trophy players. We enjoyed it to the fullest! We also gorged on spicy Rajasthani dishes and they were delicious.
Big B's selfie time with Salim-Sulaiman Before coming to Udaipur, the duo had performed in Beawar as well. After performing in Beawar, we decided to visit Ajmer Sharif Dargah to seek the blessings of Hazrat Khawaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti. And then, we decided to drive down to Udaipur instead of taking a flight. It was an amazing experience. The weather was nice which made our road trip even more fun. Both Sulaiman and I love performing in Rajasthan. You just cant get enough of this state, he said.
Having performed in several cities of the state, the two are now planning to collaborate with Rajasthani folk singers Manganiyars. We want to bring out the roots and spirit of Rajasthani music in a way that it appeals to the masses, especially the youngsters, he shared.
