Laxmikant-Pyarelal the most prolific musical duos of Indian cinema started their journey when they were young artistes. In 1952, it was Lata Mangeshkar who spotted the duo’s talent when Laxmi-Pyarelal was working for Sureel Bal Kala Kendra, a music academy for children, run by the

family.

Pyarelalji

was especially close to

Lata didi

and he still seems to be coming to terms with her passing away. On

Naam Reh Jayegaa

, a musical tribute show conceived by producer-director Gajendra Singh, Pyarelalji paid his respect to Lata Didi and reminisced about some of her superhit songs from the past.

Sources say while the shooting was on, Pyarelalji was very emotional and even broke into tears many times. Seeing the atmosphere and everyone reminiscing about Lata Ji and her songs made his heart heavy and nostalgic. He said, "Abhi bhi aisa lagta hai jaise Lata didi humaare saath hai aur iss photo se baharr aa jaayegi, hum sab se pyaar se baat karne, apne geeton ke sang (It feels like didi is still with us and will emerge from her picture to speak with us sweetly through her songs)." Pyarelalji stated that he believes that Lata Didi is a manifestation of Goddess Saraswati.

Over the years, the two had shared a very strong friendship and Lata Mangeshkar recommended Laxmikant-Pyarelal to music directors like C Ramchandra, Shankar-Jaikishan, SD Burman. The duo and Lata Mangeshkar have worked together on a number of legendary songs like Ye Samaa Samaa Hai Pyar Ka, Jhilmil Sitaron Ka Angan Hoga, and Ek Pyar Ka Naghma Hai. They have worked together on almost 700 songs, which is one of the highest numbers sung by Lata Mangeshkar for any music director.
