Patriotic songs that make these musicians emotional
‘Music, being identical with heaven, isn't a thing of momentary thrills, or even hourly ones. It's a condition of eternity’ - this quote by Gustav Theodore Holst, composer-arranger said it all. And the genre of patriotic songs fits into the definition as they have that eternal, innate power to stir our deepest emotions.
On 74th Independence Day, BT quizzed musicians, singers and composers on the song that makes them feel patriotic...
1x1 polls

Shaan:
The song that invokes a feeling of patriotism in me is 'Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai' from 'Roja' (1992); its music and lyrics heighten the emotion of love for your country. The arrangements create a strong patriotic fervour, every single time I hear it.
Kavita Seth:
'Ae Mere Pyare Watan', written by Kavi Pradeep and sung by Lata Mangeshkar in 1963, is my favourite patriotic song. Whenever I listen to this song, I feel emotional about my country and makes me want to serve my country through my art.
Arko Pravo Mukherjee:
'Kar Chale Hum Fida' ('Haqeeqat', 1964) is one such song that never fails to touch my heart with its beautiful poetry and music. It invokes feelings of valour and sacrifice for everyone who's passionate about the nation and it's values.

Guru Randhawa:
I feel proud about our country when I listen to 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti' ('Upkar', 1967). It talks about the richness of India and how everyone lives simply, but happily. I'm very proud to be born here.
Shilpa Rao:
The song based on Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem, 'Bol Ke Lab Azaad Hai Tere' is close to my heart. It's such a beautiful poem that says that you need to say things freely to be able to have a better version of your country. Every country is a work in progress and we all have the power, love and dedication to make our country better. I would urge people to listen to the song and take inspiration from it.
B Praak:
For me, it has to be 'Teri Mitti' that I sang in 'Kesari' (2019)! I feel blessed that I got to sing this song; even today, when I sing it I get goosebumps. The lyrics of the song just bring out all emotions and feelings one has for the nation through its beautiful words.
Jubin Nautiyal:
The song that evokes the feeling of patriotism in me is Lata Mangeshkar's 'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon'. It was sung at an iconic moment and brought tears to the eyes of everybody. Our country has a rich history, which should be acknowledged by the younger generations. If every individual tries to be little responsible about country, it can make a lot of difference. And education can bring a big change.
Manindar Buttar:
The song that gives me feel patriotic is 'Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon' ('Son Of India', 1962). In fact, it was the first song that I performed on stage in school during an Independence Day event. The applause by the audience was great and I was given Rs 100. The appreciation, popularity and the reward of Rs 100 that followed inspired me to take up singing as a career.
So, which one will you sing today?
