Doyens of Hindustani classical music santoor legend pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Begum Parveen Sultana, Vidwan T H Vikku Vinayakram, Vidwan V Selvaganesh, Pandit Taufiq Qureshi, Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, Devaki Pandit, Arati Ankalikar to perform at the three-day Swaranjali, - Indian Classical Music Festival starting from January 3, at the Nehru Centre, Worli.
As the name suggests, Swaranjali is a shraddhanjali or reverence of swaras or musical notes. This festival was launched in 2002 to pay homage to the late Suresh Haldankar, the late Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and the late Padmabhushan Pandit CR Vyas. These three gurus bestowed guidance and contributed to the in-depth knowledge of the classical music of Pandit Prabhakar Karekar.
Swaranjali will feature some of the music doyens like santoor legend Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Begum Parveen Sultana, Vidwan T H Vikku Vinayakram, Vidwan V Selvaganesh, Pandit Taufiq Qureshi, Pandit Venkatesh Kumar, Devaki Pandit, Arati Ankalikar.
The first day of the Swranjali concert will begin with a mellifluous, robust and vibrant voice by the veteran vocalist Pandit Venkatesh Kumar from Gwalior and Kirana gharana. The evening will conclude with the majestic voice of Patiala Gharana and the recipient of Padma Bhushan and
Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Begum Parveen Sultana.
The next the evening will begin with Vocalist Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar a two-time National Award-winning Indian classical singer. She is known for her unique high-pitch singing and style which she has earned in Agra as well as Gwalior and Jaipur- Atrauli gharanas. The evening will conclude with santoor legend Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, widely known not just as a great composer and musician but also a kind and understanding guru and a personification of Indian values. Born in 1938, Pandit Shivkumar has performed for over half a century and created a new genre of instrumental music.
The last day of the festival, Swranjali concert will begin with a deep in devotion voice by Devaki Pandit. Swarnajali 2019 concert will conclude with unique classical fusion performance by Vidwan TH Vikku Vinayakram, Vidwan V Selvaganesh, Pandit Taufiq Qureshi and Aditya Kalyanpur on tabla.
