Kochi-based rock band Motherjane releases new single online.
Internationally acclaimed Indian rock outfit Motherjane has released their latest single No Contest online, exclusively for fans. "This song is from a society dangerously short on idealism and waking up to the fact that being 'sophisticated' about the situation is getting us nowhere," explains an official release from the band.

Motherjane, which last released Jihad, a track tied-in with the promotions of Amal Neerad's Malayalam feature Anwar (2010), has borrowed from myriad sources ranging from George Bernard Shaw to one whom they call the 'most unreasonable citizen in our country' -- Anna Hazare. "No Contest is dedicated to today's global citizen who seeks a system of governance that places its people 'right up there'; to the common dream of living in any country with simple laws where public servants are investigated for unaccounted wealth before renewing their 'right' to police its constituents; where all such wealth is confiscated and utilized to pay well deserved salaries to other officials who may then be tempted to put in an honest day's work for the rest of their career. The more we look at the situation the more we appreciate these lines from George Bernard Shaw: The unreasonable man is the cause of all progress," explain the members of the band.
Formed in 1996, Motherjane consists of Suraj Mani (vocals and chief lyricist), John Thomas (drums and percussion), Clyde Rozario (bass guitar), Deepu Sasidharan (guitar) and Santosh Chandran (guitar). After having opened for international sensations including Megadeth, Machine Head, Mr. Big and Opeth, the band had recently roped in Santosh Chandran post the departure of Baiju Dharmarajan who left the crew in November, 2010, to pursue his musical project titled Wrenz. The award-winning band had previously released two full-length studio albums Insane Biography and Maktub, the latter which was unanimously quoted as the best album of 2008 by all the leading music magazines in the country.
