Tired of the rampant corruption in the fraternity, he has put in his papers
Milind Shrivastav (of Anand Milind fame) has resigned from the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) after his repeated appeals to clear the royalties of authors and composers as per the Amended Copyright Act of 2012 fell into deaf ears. The music director, who has several super hit soundtracks to his credit, has also accused the IPRS of “lacking in transparency and being a deeply corrupt body”
The move comes in the wake of an order issued by the Calcutta High Court that questions the credibility of IPRS as a body, which ideally should ensure that royalties to artistes are duly paid.

According to Milind, despite the amendment, which came into effect last year, composers and lyricists haven’t been paid their overdue royalties.
When contacted, an angry Milind said, “The IPRS is corrupt beyond measures. There is no fair representation of lyricists and composers, and it is the profit-seeking music labels that enjoy an upper hand. They are not keen to pay up the dues of writers and composers.”
Milind also alleges that the IPRS boycotted him from the Board meetings, going as far as not giving him the minutes of the same. But he hasn’t given up. “We plan to clean up the IPRS just the way it was before 2004. I can’t do that by being a part of the body, but rather from the outside,” he said adding that prominent members of the Hindi film industry like Vishal-Shekhar, Himesh Reshammiya, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy were in full support to revive IPRS. "I'm optimist that a better solution will come to this problem, as now we even have the government's support."
