Singing and live performances are not the only things keeping Mika Singh busy these days. The singer has now opened an adventure resort in Delhi near Damdama lake, called Kings Jungle. About how he bought the property, he told us, “My father had a garden of mangoes, but then my brothers and I had forgotten all about farming because we were just too fond of music. Then one day I visited Damdama lake and really liked it. So I decided to buy some property there, which eventually turned out to be quite a lot of property. Then someone gave me an idea and said why don’t you make it an adventure resort. But first I planted 1.5 lakh plants and trees there, then I got tents placed, to give it a feeling of a camping site, and it was ready.”
The resort, says Mika, is mainly for kids, and is called Kings Jungle because his favourite animal is the lion, who is the king of the jungle. There are many rides there, and lots of other fun activities to do like camel and horse riding, for which Mika bought two camels – Shankar and Shambhu, and a mare Sundari. He often invites his fans and other kids to the resort. “The first time, I called around 200 kids there, and they were all really happy because they got to spend a day with Mika.
But then all the time I can’t sing songs for them, so this was a nice place where they could spend 5-6 hours and have fun. I guess I am the only celebrity in India who he can call fans over to a place. People, even if they have the time, lack the space to do so. Now more families have started visiting it and they really like it. I can barely spend five days a month here, but those five days are really refreshing for me,” he said.
Why he chose Delhi for this resort? It’s due to his fondness for the capital, it seems.
His love for Delhi is greater than his love for Mumbai. He told us, “Dilli se mujhe pyaar bahut hai. I feel like it’s my Delhi. The culture here is really strong, there’s this bhaichara. For instance, if someone isn’t feeling well, everyone comes to take care of him.
People in Mumbai are always very busy without any reason. People there will come if it’s got to do with work.”
