Singer Mika may not have kissed a woman controversially recently but he sure has kissed another controversy! The singer rendered a song for a Punjabi film, "Dharti" that stars
Jimmy Sheirgill, Prem Chopra, Surveen Chawla,
Rannvijay Singh, etc, and was released earlier this year. It turns out that the lyrics of the song haven't gone down too well with the other senior Punjabi singers in the industry.
The lyrics of the song titled 'Gaddi Moudan Ge', are rather aggressive and talk about breaking rules, not following traffic signals, being a street rouge and in cahoots with the cops for wrongdoings. Says
Harbhajan Mann, "I don't understand why we are portraying the Punjabi youth in a light that they are not. The young minds are being fed so much violence, not just in 'Gadde Moudan Ge' but in most Punjabi songs these days."
Adds singer Jasbir Jassi, "Such songs are insulting to the Jatt, (upper class, landed community) of Punjab since all these songs are propagating them in a negative light. Songs were about romance, softness, melody and lovebut such songs are only catering to the aggression of the youth today. Once in a while, as a digression maybe, we can listen to such numbers too but not so frequently. It's like forcing pizzas and burgers down our throats everyday."
Despite repeated attempts Mika could not be reached for a comment.
