Singer Kavita Seth seems to be having a good year. With 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' from 'Cocktail' becoming a huge rage last year, the singer has been receiving a lot of awards for the same. Ask her about it and she says, “I don’t choose songs on the basis of whether it will become popular or on the probability of the awards that I might get. If I get a strong vibe about the song, I simply follow my instincts.” While the singer has always been choosy about her songs, Kavita insists that lyrics play an important role in choosing the song.
She recently refused to croon a song for
Ismail Darbar because of certain usage in lyrics. “Refused is a bit harsh. I let it pass because meaningful lyrics play a very pivotal role when I am choosing my songs. Good lyrics can do wonders to a song,” says Kavita.
The Sufi singer also adds that Sufism has impacted her life in a huge way. “It has helped me reach and explore Soulful music. I believe in being spiritual not religious. Spirituality is something which teaches you to believe not follow,” says Kavita, and adds, “Composer AR Rahman is one of the few musicians who incorporate a lot of Sufi music in his compositions. It’s my biggest dream to work with him. He is one of those rare people who understands the main essence of music.”
