Let's clap for the Sabri Brothers
Most of us probably remember the soul-wrenching qawwali Der Na Ho Jaye from Raj Kapoor’s classic love story Henna. The classically trained musicians and qawwalis, the Sabri brothers — Farid and Amin Sabri, who rendered this popular song in their powerful voice, believe that this was one of their favourites.
The Jaipur based brothers are looking forward to performing today evening at the Times Bandra festival.

“The Mumbai audience is fantastic. Yeh bahut samajhdar log hain. Hamare Maharashtrian Bhai hamesha se hi bahut hi surile log hain. Unhe sangeet ki samajh hain. (The audience here is very intelligent and Maharashtrians are extremely melodious people who have a flair for music.)
Farid and Amin bhai have lent their voice to numerous Bollywood films. “We have sung for over 40 films. And there have been some movies where we have been featured singing our qawwalis.” For the Sabri brothers Bollywood is big and they have been very involved in it since the past many years. Last year, they composed both, the playback score and the music for a movie. “The film, titled The Hero Abhimanyu, did pretty well and we had Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Soma Banerjee among others, who sang for us in this movie,” Farid says with a hint of pride. He adds, “John Abraham was featured for the first time in one of our videos.” Their next album Pyar Tha Ya Fareb Tha by Venus will be released soon.
The talented duo have been honoured by the Rajasthan government, Sheila Dixit, Omar Abdulla and many others from time to time. They have a steady fan-following all over the world, thanks to their performances abroad.
The Hindi film industry has always been supportive. “Aamir Khan saab had invited us to play for his wedding and he loved us so much that he asked us to play during his anniversary celebrations as well.”
Today’s performance depends on the audience. The brothers say, “Hum audience ka mijaz dekh ke hi gaane gate hain.”
So get set to listen to the duo rendering powerful qawwalis, Hindi film songs, Sufiyana kalams and more.
