    Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar, born on September 28, 1929, in a Marathi-speaking family in the princely state of Indore. The legend had recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films, and over 36 regional films. However, she has primarily recorded songs in Marathi and Hindi.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi wishes one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India, Lata Mangeshkar, on her birthday.

    "Spoke to Lata (Mangeshkar) Didi and conveyed birthday greetings to her. I pray for her long and healthy life," Modi tweeted.
    In 2001, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar was awarded India's highest civilian honour, Bharat Ratna, by the President, Mr. K. R. Narayanan, in the Durbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
    Lata Mangeshkar sang the patriotic song "Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo" in the presence of then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru on 27 January 1963.

    The song, composed by C. Ramchandra and written by Kavi Pradeep, is said to have brought the Prime Minister to tears.
