Kaya hits the high note with its latest Hindi song that celebrates the ICC Cricket WC.As the world gears up for some cricketing action, Kaya shows how game it is, when it comes to sports. An IPL song and a football theme song for the Clash of the Titans, FC Bayern Munich Allstar vs East Bengal Allstar XI later, the band has now scored a song for 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, slated to begin on February 19.
The band, which is actively involved in both cricket and football, and even plays Friendship matches, has composed the song in Hindi, also a first for Kaya. The lyrics go like this — Tere paas hai
Michael Hussey toh mere paas hai Sachin/Jo tere naal hai Afridi toh mere kol Yuvraj/ Kisike paas Malinga toh kisike paas Zaheer/Ab waqt batayega kaun hai kitna hai maheer/ Jeetega jeetega India re India/ Jeetega India. About the generous sprinkling of Punjabi words, bassist Arindam says, “There are Punjabi players in the team. The idea is to cheer the Indian team as a whole.” The band, however, is upset that Sreesanth has not been included in Team India. “The Kerala speedster had delivered a good performance in New Zealand and we thought he would make us proud this time around as well,” adds Arindam. What has added to the band’s joy is the fact that this year, the World Cup is being hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
While World Cup is something that the band is looking forward to, Kaya isn’t keen on Season IV of IPL. The reason, as expected, is the non-inclusion of Sourav Ganguly in the Kolkata Knight Riders. “Bengalis’ interest in cricket increased manifold after Dada joined the Indian Squad. Also, since the inception of IPL, we’ve seen him play, the IPL without him is unthinkable. I wonder, how many Kolkatans will make it to the Eden Gardens if Dada isn’t there. Also, if performance was the sole criterion for selection, Dada should definitely have been part of the team,” the guitarist tunes out.
