It’s a new genre created by me: Soumitra Ray

Soumitra Ray of Bhoomi has scored for a play — his first. The play, “Aschourjo Funtosee”, is by Manoj Mitra. “I’ve been in talks with Manojda for two-three years now.
My only fear, what if he rejected my songs! This time around, when people from his theatre group approached me, I decided to give it a shot. I was given nine songs,” says the vocalist.
About the genre of music he wisecracks, “It’s a new genre created by me. It comes close to world music. Robin Lai (of Bhoomi) has done the mixing.” Irene Sarkar, vocalist in Soumitra’s son’s band, has lent voice to the tracks.
